Country Overview
In the midst of poverty and income inequality, children in Uganda suffer greatly especially in educational attainment, moral development, and spiritual growth. Their vulnerability is compounded by political instability and other social concerns, therefore making children and youth the most vulnerable groups of the population.
Despite the government’s intervention to enable all people to access education through Universal Primary and Secondary Education, many schools in rural and urban areas are grappling with the diminished quality of education as a result of an ever increasing enrollment. In schools, especially primary, the student to teacher ratio is estimated at 70:1. The government’s official maximum ratio is 40:1.
