WORKGROUPS

Many of our sites host WorkGroups-an experience that provides unique community service and team-building opportunities to groups of 10-40 individuals. We welcome teams of all kinds-from churches, youth groups, corporations, high schools, colleges, etc.-to spend a weekend or an entire week engaging in service projects and/or assisting with our after-school and summer camps. Whether you're looking for service opportunities in the United States or are passionate about global missions, we'll find the perfect fit for you and your team!

Read on for information about several of our domestic and international sites.

CAMDEN, NJ

UrbanPromise was birthed in Camden 27 years ago and the ministry is still thriving in the city-serving more children and youth than ever before! In addition to working with kids in after-school programs and summer camps, assisting with facility upkeep, and construction projects, WorkGroups engage in meaningful reflection and discussions on the challenges and issues that affect urban communities in an effort to increase awareness and break down stereotypes. It's an incredible introduction to urban ministry for groups of all ages/sizes! Email Charlie for more information.

CHARLOTTE, NC (ONLY AVAILABLE BEFORE MEMORIAL DAY)

Founded by Jimmy McQuilkin, a former UP Honduras intern and Teach for America corps member, this ministry is located in the South Boulevard corridor in southwest Charlotte, North Carolina. Charlotte’s low-income communities bear the obvious scars of gangs, drugs, violence, fatherless homes, academic underachievement and the crushing weight of generational poverty. UP Charlotte is committed to involving teens in the process of transforming their neighborhoods through the tutoring and mentoring of the younger children in their communities.

MIAMI, FL

Founded in 2009, UrbanPromise Miami is based in Little Havana and serves nearly 300 kids each year through their after-school programs, summer camps, counseling, and mentorship. Despite Miami's reputation for beautiful weather and sandy beaches, the city is betrayed by poor graduation rates, high rates of crime and poverty, and low levels of civic engagement. UrbanPromise is seeking to change that story through high-impact programming that's changing the lives of children and teens every day.

TORONTO, CANADA

Toronto Community Housing (TCH) is the second largest provider of social housing in North America. 110,000 people live in TCH neighbourhoods, where most families survive on less than $20,000 of household income per year. Research clearly shows us that low-income families, especially children, are negatively affected physically, mentally and emotionally. UrbanPromise Toronto's mission is to reach children in TCH with the love of Jesus and raise them into leaders who restore their community. Their mission team experience is one that encourages groups to deeply engage with the surrounding neighborhood while leading camp activities and serving kids.

HONDURAS

Looking for something a little further from home? Visit our site in Honduras for a week of service, adventure, learning, and transformation.  UPH focuses on youth outreach in the city of Copan through camps, teen mentorship, experiential learning, and youth leadership programs. WorkGroup trips are often a blend of serving kids, cultural activities, devotionals, excursions to the local Mayan ruins, and more!
