Malawi

Country Overview

Malawi, located in southeast Africa, ranks among the world's most densely populated and least developed countries. Some of the most pressing challenges that Malawi faces are poverty, poor education, a 10.6% HIV/Aids rate, and a massive rate of unemployment. Our affiliate sites in Malawi seek to provide children with the resources necessary to overcome their seemingly insurmountable circumstances and become healthy and responsible citizens.

Most of the children we serve live far below the poverty line.

Education in Malawi is a privilege, not a right. Lack of resources all contribute to an education system in desperate need of help.

Our Ministries in Malawi

Currently there are 5 ministries in Malawi offering AfterSchool Programs, Summer Camps, orphan care, high school education, and girls’ empowerment programs. These sites were birthed through a partnership with African Bible College and UPI’s fellowship program.

ChristCares Ministries (CCM) exists to equip children and youth spiritually, academically, and socially with life management skills in order for them to achieve their life goals, develop leadership skills, and impact their communities.   This is achieved through holistic programming, such as our high school, Afterschool Program, girls’ empowerment program, sponsorship program, HIV/Aids awareness initiatives, and job training.

Rays of Hope was established in 2009 in Chilomoni, Blantyre, Malawi’s second largest city. Our mission is to nurture children and youth and empower them with abilities essential for life management, academic excellence, and spiritual development in order to become competent Christian leaders.

RiseMalawi Ministries was established in 2008 in the Dowa region, a rural area that borders the capital city. Our goal is to equip children with the skills necessary for social development, economic independence, spiritual growth, physical well-being, and academic achievement.

RiseMalawi comprises a high school, an AfterSchool Program, a feeding program for all participants, HIV/Aids awareness initiatives, and a girls’ empowerment program.

Founded in 2012 in Salima, Malawi, by three African Bible College graduates, Cornerstone Ministries’ vision is to create a better community in Christ where children and youth are empowered and their lives transformed. While we have three main areas of focus, we are committed to HIV/Aids prevention throughout the year conducting awareness campaigns in our community.

YouthCare was established in 2003 to reach the orphaned street children of Lilongwe, the capital city of Malawi.  We operate the SafeHaven orphanages for 7 boys and 7 girls, providing a safe home, food, discipleship, and education.  We also conduct an AfterSchool Program, Summer Camps, and a girls’ empowerment program.

Our mission is to enhance the lives of at-risk urban youth by equipping them with the tools necessary for academic excellence, life skills, spiritual growth, and leadership capacity, while meeting their basic physical needs.

Seeds of Promise is a Christian nonprofit organization whose main aim is to fight extreme poverty through sustainable farming, promoting better nutritional choices and entrepreneurship training for the youth in Malawi. Seeds of Promise is based in Lilongwe with a 50 acre farm and a city office where the entrepreneurial training happens.

Voices Awake's mission is to awaken the potential in girls by equipping them to fight against harmful traditions so that they positively transform their lives. This is being done through promoting positive values, raising awareness on abuse, educating girls and leadership development. Through this program girls gain access to female role models, education opportunities and they are encouraged to pursue their dreams as people created for a purpose.

LoveDriven Ministries exists to empower and provide opportunities to the children and youth living in Juma village, one of the most poverty, isolated and Muslim-dominated villages in Salima, Malawi.  50% of the kids drop out of school due to poverty, lack of role models, cultural and religious influences as well as insufficiency of high schools.  Our ministry focuses on supplementary education, Christian discipleship, youth empowerment (On Job Training) and leadership development.

Young and Empowered is a nonprofit organization founded by two leaders who are passionate about improving the lives of children and youth in Malawi through mentorship, spiritual enhancing and educational programs. The organization was founded as a response to the unique challenges facing children and youth growing up in the cities of Malawi.  Over the past ten years, the education sector has experienced tangible progress.  Recent reports by the Global Partners for education indicate that primary school enrollment has increased by 16%.  Nonetheless, the sector continues to face multidimensional challenges such as inadequate school facilities, high pupil-teacher ratios, low learning achievement and huge capacity gap in school inspection and supervision. In order to improve these statistics, there is need for nongovernmental organizations such as Young and Empowered to work hand in hand with the government.

Good Promise Ministries is on a mission to proactively create an environment where under-resourced children and young people are presented with educational, economic, and leadership development opportunities enabling them to break out from greatness limitations for the long lasting impact of their lives, families, and communities!

Our Mission is to give hope and a holistic transformation to street kids and orphans in the city of Lilongwe by providing food, education support, Christian formation, and temporary shelter.

Life coaching Ministries aspires to see the street-connected children and orphans becoming responsible citizens and successful leaders who will realize their potential and bring change to the world.
